Some might say Camping and Romance do not go hand in hand with long hot sweaty days and bug spray coated evenings. But we say camping and romance are one in the same....at least for us.

The following tips may assist you in having a romantic time in the woods.

Car Camping Couples

* Plan your trip for romance, not extreme adventure. Don't overbook your days, keep your schedule light and enjoy your time together, on the trail or in camp.

* Take some time in selecting your campsite. Pick a campground that has fewer sites that are spread out over the property. Avoid RV campgrounds and try to find a tent only campground. Look specifically for "hike in" sites. Most of these sites have a short walk from your vehicle. Foot traffic around your site will be much less and you are less likely to have a family reunion next to you.

* Plan your meals in advance. They can be as extravagant as your imagination will allow. See our forum for some wonderful camp recipes. Make cooking and eating together a major focus of the trip.

* Remember - Sounds travel at night. It may be a romantic get-a-way for you, but the campsite next door may be a family weekend.

* Keep a package of Huggies Extreme Baby Wipes in your tent. (an unofficial survey concluded these were the most durable wipes out there)

* The #1 Tip for Couples Camping - Take a shower before you retire to your tent for the night.
    • taking a shower just before bed will wash off any fire smoke, bug spray or sweaty body odors and will make sleeping close to one another more pleasant.
    • if it's a hot night, shower with cool water, you will feel more refreshed.

Backcountry Couples - all of the above applies for the backcountry as well.

* Something to consider is to utilize a backcountry base camp. Set up your camp and spend your time enjoying the surrounding area and each other.

*The best thing about the backcountry is that your campsite will be private and beautiful.

*Meal planning takes a little more forethought and planning, but wonderful meals, even for backpackers are possible.

* Rule #1 - If you are in the backcountry, there is no excuse for not taking a shower. Our Dromedary Shower Adapter works wonderfully.
    • heat some water on your stove and have a warm shower. Each of you can take turns holding the shower bag and the towel for the other while they bathe. There is nothing more sexy than watching the one you love take a shower.
