The Great Jacksonville Campout

The National Wildlife Federation promotes the Great American Campout in June each year.  The event is designed to help communities promote camping and healthy outdoor activities in a safe, educational environment.  As part of the tradition, Mayor Peyton’s Book Club and JaxParks, in conjunction with the Jacksonville Children’s Commission and other community partners are hosting the Great Jacksonville Campout.

Families with children up to age 12 are invited to camp with us and enjoy FREE family-oriented activities, with an emphasis on camping skills and the outdoors.  Event sponsors include GITTO (Get Into The Outdoors), Whole Foods and Gander Mountain.

3 p.m. Saturday, June 5 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 6

Losco Regional Park

GITTO will be onsite to distribute rental tents, offer Awareness Workshops for Leave No Trace Ethics and to promote outdoor recreation for families. GITTO will also be offering an educational opportunity for your child to put together a basic safety kit for their camping adventures, so be certain to look us up the night of the event.

Directions to Losco Regional Park:

From I-95, exit Philips Highway and go north.  Turn left on Shad Road.  Go about one mile and turn left on Hood Road.  Park is approximately one mile on your left. 

Note: Parents must attend this event with their children.
